Why Gold-Filled?

Gold-filled jewelry is a major step up from standard gold plating and what we consider to be waterproof. Rather than applying an ultra-thin layer of gold, gold-filled components are made by mechanically bonding a substantially thicker layer of real gold to a base metal. That means you get the rich look and feel of gold with far greater durability and longevity than typical gold-plated jewelry, without the price tag of solid gold. Gold vermeil is different: it uses sterling silver as its base and a layer of gold meeting specific thickness and purity requirements, but it is still a plated product.

It also carries a beautiful biblical connection: lapis lazuli is named in several modern Bible translations, including descriptions of the sapphire-like pavement beneath God's feet in Exodus 24:10 and the stones associated with the high priest's breastpiece in Exodus 28. Older translations often render the underlying Hebrew term as “sapphire,” so we wouldn't claim with certainty that every biblical reference means modern lapis lazuli—but the historical connection makes this deep blue stone especially meaningful.
